J.M.C. Thaxton


James Marion Columbus Thaxton was born 30 August, 1838 in Butts County, the son of William Thaxton and Martha R. Clark, and died 2 November, 1925 in Forsyth, Monroe County.  He was married to the former Sarah Elizabeth Carmichael.  Mr. Thaxton was a delegate to the to Towaliga Association, from Liberty Primitive Baptist Church in the years 1867, 1868, 1869, and 1879.  The following notes concerning him are taken from The Middle Georgia Argus:

December 8, 1885 ~ Mr. J. M. C. Thaxton, who left this county four years ago and moved his family to Sand Mountain has been in the county several days arranging to return to his old home on Towaliga River. Sand Mountain is a failure.

January 5, 1886 ~ Mr. J. M. C. Thaxton has moved his family back to his plantation on Towaliga River near Flat Shoals.  For four years he has been living on Sand Mountain in North Alabama.

April 20, 1902 ~ Traveled to Dallas, Texas for reunion of Confederate Veterans. Member of John L. Barnett Camp No. 1114, United Confederate Veterans.
