A group photo of the family of the late Green Clay Thaxton, taken at the family home during the summer of 1893*.  Very few of the folks pictured are identified.  "Mother" Martha Jane Weaver Thaxton ( 1816 ~ 1893 ) sits in the second row near the center, wearing the same dark collared jacket she wore in the 1883 family photo [1]. The infant in the second row to the right, marked by the "X", is identified as Alice Carter.  Little Alice sits in the lap of her mother, Victoria Ellen Thaxton Carter [2].  Immediately to the right, wearing the straw boater, is her father Charles Richard Carter [3].  Standing behind their mother and slightly to her right is Alice's eldest brother, Charley Frank Carter [4].

Also just recently identified are [5] David J. Thaxton, editor of the Middle Georgia Argus, and [6] Mrs. David J. Thaxton ( Margaret Clemintine Carmichael ). The children immediately to each side of ( and on the lap of ) Mrs. Thaxton are presumed to be theirs ~ most probably Pauline Francis, Cullen David, Sherwood Henry, and Osceola Alvin Thaxton.

This scan was made from a copy of the faded original.  If you would like an enlargement of any portion of this photo, or can identify any of the others present, please contact the photo submitter below.  Finally, please note some slightly darker members of the family standing in the rear on your far left...
